In 2017-18, YoungArts is partnering with CalArts and their
Community Arts Partnership (CAP) program to provide guest teaching artists for
select out-of-school programs in Los Angeles. CalArts CAP programs provide
free, intensive arts learning for under-served students across LA County during
the academic school year and summer term. This new YoungArts initiative is aimed
at providing alumni with professional development opportunities that allow them
to give back to the community.
Selected alumni will present one class as part of the
programs listed in the link below, working in conjunction with the program lead
teacher. As a guest teacher for one of the CalArts CAP sessions, you will
be asked to give a brief summary of your background, showcase some of your current
work, and encourage the students to apply to YoungArts. The primary goal
of the classes are to have the students engage with you, each other, and enjoy the
act of making art. Each class is generally 2-3 hours and will focus on creating
and completing a creative project within the class time frame. Selected
alumni will also receive an honorarium for their time and funds for class
materials (if needed).

Interested alumni should submit:
- An idea/proposal for the creative
project you’d like to do with the students (discipline specific). A basic
description will suffice.
- A cost projection for
needed materials (if necessary).
- Arts related teaching
experience and/or mentorship work with high school age students (in or out of a
classroom setting). Training may be provided for those who need it.
Fall guest teaching classes will most likely be scheduled in
late October; Spring classes in late March. Specific dates will be worked
out with the CalArts CAP faculty.
The deadline to submit is September 15, 2017 11:59 EST.
